After undergoing a bilateral mastectomy with a nipple lift, her scars felt tied not only to what had happened physically, but to a deeper, lingering uncertainty—how it happened, and why it happened to her. When she began to paint, those emotions found their way onto the canvas in color and form. She chose grey to lay over her scars, representing that unknown space she was still trying to understand. But she didn’t stop there. She surrounded that grey with pink—soft, intentional, and full of meaning—because peace is what she longs for, what she is actively choosing to move toward.
