About the art and artist:
Christie’s artwork tells the story of a life marked by resilience, beginning with the removal of a tumor from her upper left arm at just seven years old, and continuing through a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction following her cancer diagnosis. A lover of color in her everyday life, Christie chose an abstract approach—allowing vibrant hues to express the emotions she now feels on the other side of her journey. Yellow radiates optimism and joy, blue rises in a burst of peace and calm, green reflects growth and renewal, while grounding tones of brown anchor the piece in stability. Across her scars, she added delicate sparkles, as if fairy dust had been gently sprinkled over the parts of her body that once caused pain and fear—transforming them into something beautiful and worthy of celebration. Through this experience, Christie has reframed her scars not as reminders of hardship, but as symbols of strength and intentional choice. She feels at peace with the decisions that led her here, embracing the positive emotions each color represents. Creating this piece alongside other women through ScART deepened her sense of connection, reminding her that healing is not only personal—but also shared.
