About the art and artist:

Debra LaMountain’s story is written across the canvas of her life, shaped by a mastectomy, melanoma, and the lasting mark of an accident—each scar holding its own chapter of pain and survival. In her artwork, she began by placing colors closest to those scars that reflected fear, pain, and anger—the raw emotions that once lived there. But she didn’t stop there. From those darker hues, she painted outward, layering in colors that represent strength, power, and love—the feelings she consciously chooses to nurture each day in her journey toward positivity.

Through the ScART experience, Debra found herself facing deep self-reflection—something she admits wasn’t always easy. Yet, within that challenge came something powerful. Creating alongside other women who understand similar struggles brought a sense of connection and empowerment that transformed the process. What began as something difficult became enlightening. By putting her emotions into art, Debra discovered not only release, but a sense of peace—proof that even the hardest stories can be expressed in a way that feels healing and good.
