This beautiful journal features original works of art created by participants in You Night’s ScART (Scar + Art) healing program—a powerful experience where survivors turn their scars into sacred, visual stories of resilience.

Each design reflects the strength, beauty, and journey of someone who has faced life-changing challenges, using art as a path to healing.

About the art and artist:

Amara walked into her ScART experience carrying more than just the visible reminders of her journey—she carried the emotional weight of everything she had endured, the quiet strength it took to keep going, and the parts of herself she was still trying to reconnect with. Her scars told a story, but until that moment, they had felt more like something to hide than something to understand. When she began to create, something inside her softened. She chose colors that reflected both where she had been and where she longed to go—tones that held pain, but also resilience, hope, and a sense of renewal. Each brushstroke became a release, a way to express what words couldn’t fully capture.

As the piece came together, Amara began to see herself differently. What once felt like damage began to look like evidence—evidence of survival, of strength, of a body that had fought for her. The experience didn’t erase the hard parts of her journey, but it gave her a new way to hold them. There was a sense of peace in that space, in being surrounded by others who understood without explanation, in allowing herself to be seen and supported. For the first time in a long time, she wasn’t focused on what had been taken from her, but on what remained—and what was still possible.

By the end of the experience, Amara wasn’t just looking at a piece of art. She was looking at herself through a new lens—one that made room for both the pain and the beauty of her story. And in that shift, something meaningful began: a deeper acceptance, a renewed sense of self, and the quiet understanding that healing doesn’t mean forgetting—it means seeing yourself, fully, and choosing to move forward anyway.
