This beautiful umbrella features original works of art created by participants in You Night’s ScART (Scar + Art) healing program—a powerful experience where survivors turn their scars into sacred, visual stories of resilience.

Each design reflects the strength, beauty, and journey of someone who has faced life-changing challenges, using art as a path to healing.

A portion of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation in honor of this artist.

About the art and the artist:

Susan Bedard’s story is one of duality—of holding both pain and power within the same body, the same heart. Her scars, the result of a double mastectomy, became the starting point for a deeper exploration of what it means to feel everything at once.

In her artwork, Susan chose to represent both the negative and positive emotions tied to her journey through color. Red appeared as both anger and pain, black held fear, and grey reflected a sense of coldness. Pink, symbolizing femininity, remained present throughout—unchanged, even in the midst of struggle. But alongside these darker tones, she introduced their counterparts: purple for dignity and power, red again for love, grey softened into grace, and pink still standing as a reminder of her enduring womanhood.

Inspired by her favorite movie, Moana, Susan created a piece that reflects the idea of two sides—the light and the dark, the hurt and the healing. Like the story itself, her artwork reveals that these opposing forces are not separate people, but parts of the same person experiencing different emotions. Both sides belong. Both are real.

Through the ScART experience, Susan came to a powerful realization: not all scars are visible. Some live beneath the surface, carried quietly in the heart and mind. And just like the ones we can see, they deserve to be acknowledged, felt, and ultimately, healed.
