"My painting reflects my journey through a double mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction, port placement, heart procedures, and even my reimagined belly button. I used shades of blue, green, and yellow. Blue represents the peace that surpasses all understanding—peace only God can provide. Green symbolizes growth as I adjust to my new normal. Yellow stands for joy, which I am slowly reclaiming. Being in God’s presence brings that joy, and I’ve felt His hand guiding me through every step of this journey. I chose to depict each of my scars—the port scar, my breast and abdominal scars, and even my belly button, which now resembles a sun with rays. I also included my heart because the emotional healing is just as important. This experience helped me begin the process of reprogramming negative self-talk and seeing my scars in a new light. I’m learning to rebuild my self-image, both mentally and physically. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement from others who understand. These scars tell a powerful story of survival, healing, and hope."
