"My scars include a port scar, stretch marks, and an old appendectomy scar. Each one tells a story, not just of what happened to my body—but of what I’ve carried emotionally. In my painting, I used red to represent both love and anger. There’s deep love for those who have supported me, but also a fierce anger about what I’ve been through. I didn’t ask for this, and I’m still working through the emotions that come with that. I chose black and white to reflect confusion, fear, and emptiness. Right now, I feel like I’m standing in the middle of those shades—uncertain, overwhelmed, and trying to make sense of everything. My emotions are intense in this stage of the journey, and I’m not yet at peace with what I’ve endured. But I believe that, in time, acceptance will come. I’ll look at these scars and see strength instead of sorrow. I’ll feel less anger and more clarity. I know healing isn’t linear, and I’m still in the thick of it. This painting was a way for me to let those emotions out—and to remind myself that feeling everything is okay. This is just one part of the journey."
