"My scars tell a story—melanoma surgery, chemo port surgery, and heart failure. I kept my painting simple because my healing journey is still unfolding. I painted a heart marked with emotional scars, symbolizing that until my heart is stronger, I can’t move forward with breast cancer surgery. I chose red to represent both the danger of moving ahead with treatment too soon and the deep love I feel from my incredible support system. Yellow fills the background to reflect my optimism and joy. Despite my diagnosis, I feel positive, hopeful, and incredibly fortunate. I don’t experience the typical symptoms of heart failure, which allows me to enjoy life even in this uncertain waiting period. I believe my heart medications will do their job, and I’ll be ready to take the next step in my cancer treatment. For now, I choose to be happy, to be grateful, and to live fully in this in-between space."
