"My scars are from an arthroscopic surgery, a double mastectomy, and flap reconstruction. I chose the colors purple, blue, green, and yellow to represent different parts of my journey. Purple symbolizes peace, faith, and pride. I’ve made peace with my scars, and I wear them with pride—believing and hoping they’ll be my last. Blue brings a sense of calm and reflects the wisdom I’ve gained through this experience. Green represents my personal growth, the renewal of my life, and my continued hope for lasting health. Yellow is for optimism—my new outlook on life and my ability to find joy again. The metallic paint in my piece represents the tears I once shed over these scars. They were once reminders of pain, but now they’re symbols of survival. This process reminded me that we’re all on different journeys, and every scar tells a unique story. Through ScART, I’ve come to see my scars as a badge of honor for everything I’ve endured. I’ve also gained a deeper understanding of the many forms cancer takes, and how vital it is that we continue to support one another with compassion and strength."
