About the art and artist:

Adelia Ramos’s story is one of strength, perspective, and quiet pride. Her scars—from a lumpectomy and lymph node dissection with reconstruction—carry the weight of her cancer journey, but also the meaning she has chosen to give them. When she looked at her scars, she saw anchors. At first, anchors can feel like something that holds you down, and in many ways, cancer did just that. But she also realized that anchors serve another purpose—they ground you. They keep you steady, rooted, and present.

In her artwork, Adelia chose vibrant colors, a reflection of how she now sees her story. Her scars are not something to hide; they are part of her, part of what proves she is still here. They represent survival, and for that, she feels a deep sense of pride.

Through the ScART experience, Adelia found inspiration in the stories of other women. There was a shared vulnerability in the room—histories laid bare, emotions spoken honestly—and within that, she felt safe. That sense of connection reminded her that while each journey is unique, no one walks it alone.

What Adelia holds onto most is a powerful truth: her scars do not define her. They are simply a part of her, just like her hair or her eyes. They exist within the larger, more beautiful whole of who she is. To her, life is like art—a masterpiece, ever-evolving and open to interpretation. And in that understanding, she has found both peace and empowerment.
