About the art and artist:

Lisa Furtado Morin’s story is one of survival layered with truth, courage, and emotional awakening. Her scars, the result of a double mastectomy, became the foundation for a deeply symbolic piece of art that reflects not just what she endured—but how she continues to rise. In her painting, the sun shines as a powerful symbol of survival, a reminder that even after the darkest moments, light still finds its way through. The mountains represent the constant climb of her journey—steep, ongoing, and requiring strength she didn’t always know she had. A bridge stretches across the canvas, symbolizing the times she had to fight and push forward, especially for her sons, while the water beneath reflects the long, unsteady path she has traveled.

Through the ScART experience, Lisa came face to face with a deeper truth—one she hadn’t fully acknowledged before. She realized that surviving cancer physically does not always mean healing emotionally. Beneath her strength was a part of her still holding fear, still waiting to feel whole again. As she created alongside other women, she found not only understanding, but a profound sense of support. Her fellow ScARTists became a source of strength, holding space for her pain, her fear, and her courage. She credits Lisa’s compassionate guidance and the unwavering support of her “pink sisters” as essential to helping her move through this experience.

What began as an artistic exercise became something much more—a release of emotions long buried beneath survival mode. For the first time, Lisa allowed herself to fully feel the emotional weight of her journey. She now understands that true healing is not just about living through cancer, but about reconnecting with the parts of herself that were left behind in the process. Her experience with ScART gave her that opportunity, and she now encourages every survivor to take that step—to explore the emotional connection to their journey and discover what it truly means to heal.
