About the art and the artist:

Jenny Foster’s story is one of layered emotion, resilience, and self-awareness. Her scars—born from metastatic ovarian cancer, a BRCA1 diagnosis, and complications from breast reduction infections—tell a complex story of survival. But for Jenny, that story isn’t defined by a single feeling. It is made up of many.

In her artwork, she chose to use every color, creating layers much like colored sand poured into a glass bottle. Some areas are thick, vibrant, and full of life—representing moments of strength, acceptance, and even peace. Other areas are thinner, darker—reflecting the weight of harder emotions that still linger. Together, these layers form a truthful picture of her experience, one that doesn’t simplify or hide the reality of what she’s been through.

Through this process, Jenny realized something important about herself. While she wishes her scars didn’t exist, she has never felt ashamed of them. They are part of her story, but they do not diminish her.

For Jenny, creating art became more than expression—it became release. She sees it as a powerful form of therapy, one that doesn’t require perfection or talent, only honesty. In allowing herself to put her emotions onto the canvas, she found a way to process, to feel, and to let go—layer by layer.
