About the art and artist:
Kimberly Foley’s story is written across her body in powerful, life-altering moments—an open heart surgery, a double mastectomy, and the placement of a chemo port. Each scar carries its own weight, its own chapter of survival. When she began her artwork, Kimberly approached it in a very literal way, painting a heart along her open heart surgery scar and a pink breast cancer ribbon to represent her fight—honoring exactly what her body had been through.
But as she sat among other women, watching their canvases fill with color, symbolism, and emotion, something shifted. She began to realize that while she had acknowledged her scars, she hadn’t fully processed them. Her approach reflected what she now sees as a surface-level understanding—one that hadn’t yet reached the deeper emotional impact these experiences had on her life.
What unfolded for Kimberly was both eye-opening and deeply moving. She discovered just how much pain she had buried, how much she had carried without truly allowing herself to feel it. And in that realization, something powerful began—healing. She describes the experience as one she absolutely loved, not because it was easy, but because it opened a door she didn’t even realize was closed.
Through ScART, Kimberly feels she has finally begun the journey of truly processing her story—not just surviving it, but understanding it. With gratitude, she now encourages others facing medical battles to step into this experience, believing it has the power to awaken something within them, just as it did for her—and to gently guide them toward real, lasting healing.
