Each design reflects the strength, beauty, and journey of someone who has faced life-changing challenges, using art as a path to healing. My painting is a reflection of every scar on my body and the journey behind each one. There’s a scar on my head from a biopsy for a tumor that covers half my scalp. Mastectomy and reconstruction scars, a port scar, a hysterectomy scar, and the mark from a kidney removal. A femur rod was placed after cancer ate through my bone. I also carry two C-section scars and a scar from a crushed wrist repaired with plates and screws. Fury and Grace is painted in bold red to express the deep anger I’ve felt—anger at cancer, at the pain, at living in a body that feels mangled and marked. Purple flows through to represent the grace of God, carrying me through even my darkest moments. Hints of yellow and streaks of gold bring light—hope, gratitude, and healing. This painting helped me face feelings I usually push away. It gave those emotions a voice and brought them into the light. Hearing others share their journeys and how they see their scars was incredibly moving. We each carry so much, yet through creativity and connection, we find the strength to rise."
